What to do when ChatGPT or Gemini gets your prices, opening hours or address wrong
You can't edit a ChatGPT or Gemini answer directly. But you can fix the sources they take their data from — your site, Google Business Profile, directories and pages that mention you — and make the data consistent everywhere.
The short answer
AI makes mistakes when there is outdated or contradictory data about you online. Fixing it isn't a matter of "complaining to ChatGPT" but of putting your sources in order: first your site, then Google Business Profile, directories and third-party pages. After that, you need to track for several weeks whether the answers have changed.
Why ChatGPT and Gemini get things wrong
When a user asks about a specific business, ChatGPT and Gemini usually search the web and compile an answer from several pages. Errors occur when:
- third-party sources are out of date — an old review in a city guide, a directory with last year's address, an aggregator with long-gone prices;
- the data is contradictory — one set of opening hours on your site, another in Google Business Profile, a third on social media;
- your site doesn't have the data as text — prices only in a PDF or an image, the address only on a map;
- there are several branches or similar names — AI mixes up addresses or brands;
- the model "fills in the gaps" — when facts are missing, AI may produce a plausible but false answer.
In our monitoring, among AI answers with links, the brand's own site was cited in only 54% of cases. Maps and local directories in 20%, city guides and event listings in 16%. In other words, AI takes a significant share of the facts about you from other people's pages. More in the article on which sources AI relies on.
A step-by-step plan to fix it
1. Record the error
Save the exact question, platform, date, answer text and, most importantly, the source links beneath it. Often the error is already visible in one of those sources — then it's clear what to fix first. How to phrase your questions is described in the ChatGPT check checklist.
2. Fix your own site
- Address, phone number, opening hours — as text on the contact page and in the footer.
- Prices — as text on the services page or in product listings, with an update date if prices change often.
- A separate page for each branch with its address and opening hours.
- Remove or update old pages and news items with outdated data.
3. Update Google Business Profile
For a local business, this is one of Google's key sources. Check the name, address, opening hours (including holiday and special hours), phone number, website, categories, services and prices. Reply to reviews in which customers mention incorrect details. If you run an online shop, keep your feed in Google Merchant Center up to date.
4. Go through directories and listings
Find out where you are listed: maps, local directories, aggregators, booking services, marketplaces, social networks. Correct whatever you have access to, and use the same name, address and phone number everywhere.
5. Add structured data
schema.org markup (for example, LocalBusiness with an address and openingHours, Product with an Offer and a price) helps search engines read the facts unambiguously. An important condition from Google's documentation: structured data must match the visible text on the page. Google doesn't need any separate "AI markup" or special files for its AI features.
6. Ask third-party sources to update their data
If the error is in a media article, a city guide or a ranking, write to the editors: what exactly is wrong, what is correct, and a link to your official page. A short, specific email usually works better than a general request to "update the information".
7. Don't block AI search bots from your site
Check your robots.txt. For ChatGPT to find and cite your site in search, OpenAI advises against blocking the OAI-SearchBot bot (OpenAI documentation). For Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, a page needs to be indexed and eligible to be shown with a snippet.
How to check that the fix has worked
- After 1–2 weeks, ask the same questions on the same platforms.
- See whether the sources under the answer have changed: has your site appeared, has the outdated page disappeared.
- Repeat several times on different days — one correct answer doesn't mean the problem is solved.
- Compare the share of correct answers "before" and "after".
Updates don't happen instantly: search engines recrawl pages at different frequencies, and third-party sites may take a long time to respond.
How AI Visibility does it
Every day AI Visibility asks your customers' questions in ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode and shows what AI gets wrong about the brand and which source the error came from. The action plan shows what to fix first. When you mark a step as done, you can see "before" and "after" in the same daily answers. Nobody can guarantee that AI will immediately answer correctly, but the changes can be measured.

Questions and answers
Can I contact OpenAI or Google to get an answer about my business corrected?
There is no dedicated form for correcting facts about a business in ChatGPT answers; you can only give an answer a thumbs down. What actually works is fixing the data in the sources AI relies on.
How long does it take for AI to start answering correctly?
It depends on how quickly the sources are updated and how often search engines recrawl them: anywhere from a few days to a few months. So track changes across a series of answers rather than with a single check.
Why does AI quote old prices when my site already shows new ones?
AI may rely not on your site but on third-party pages: old reviews, directories, aggregators. Also, AI may not be able to read prices that appear only as an image or are loaded by a script.
Does schema.org markup help?
Structured data helps search engines unambiguously understand your address, opening hours and prices, provided they match the visible text on the page. Google doesn't require any separate markup specifically for AI.
